ROBERT SYKES (third generation)

Robert was the youngest son of George Sykes and Catherine Crowe. He was born at Spring Valley on 10th April 1857.
Robert lived at Spring Valley and helped his father with farm work until he was 26 years old. He then went and worked for the Railway. He married Catherine Jennings and lived in Goulburn from 1897. They had four sons and one daughter.

He died at the age of 77 years, on 4th April 1934, and is buried in the Catholic Cemetery, Kenmore.

Percival John Sykes (fourth generation)

Percival was the second son of Robert and Kathleen Sykes. He was born at Goulburn on 29th January 1890, and received his education at Wagga and Gunning. After his schooling was completed, he became an engine driver for the N.S.W. Government Railways and worked at Goulburn and Yass. Percy was an excellent tennis player.
In 1915 he enlisted as a soldier and served with the A.I.F. in many battles in Europe (see photo). He was killed in France on 29th June 1916, and is buried at Fleur Baix Cemetery, South of Armentieres.

Oliver Sykes (fourth Generation)

Oliver was the fourth child of Robert Sykes and Catherine Jennings and was born at Wagga on 23rd November 1894. He received his education at Cullertin and the Christian Brothers' College, Goulburn.
After School he became a technician with the Postal Department and worked at Goulburn and then was transferred to Lakemba. He was a keen follower and player of football and tennis.
Oliver served with the A.I.F. in Europe during the First World War (see photo above). He was in the Army from 1915 till 1918 and has a proud war record. He married Joan Duck in St Peter and Paul's Cathedral, Goulburn. One of his sons, Neil, married Barbara Brew. Their daughters, Catherine and Jane, are shown left. Oliver died at Lady Gowrie Red Cross Hospital on 10th April 1963. He is buried in the Lawn Cemetery, Northern Suburbs.

Joseph Cyril Sykes (fourth generation)

Joseph was the fourth son of Robert Sykes and Catherine Jennings and was born at Goulburn on 19th December 1888.
Joseph was educated at Wagga and Gunning. He went to Sydney after his schooling and obtained work with the Tramway Department. He was an excellent pianist and a very keen tennis player.
On the 2nd July 1944, he died at the Hospice, Darlinghurst. He is buried in the Botany Cemetery.
